Born in Edmonton in 1941, Rod Heinz spent much of his life in Vancouver, where he died in 2012. He was a passionate devotee of music of all kinds and for over forty years he brought his camera to almost every notable musical event in the city, hiding in the shadows, unobtrusively taking black and white pictures. He wasn't interested in fame or fortune, never exhibiting or publishing his work. He shared his favourite photos with just a handful of friends, of which I was fortunate, and honoured, to be one. I believe he was one of the best photographers, anywhere, of musicians in performance. I have about fifty of his photos in my collection which I am sharing here. - Brian Nation
